Who runs Kickstart?
Miranda Mitchell owns and operates Kickstart and teaches all off the offerings. Our collaborating instructor in Anderson Bushi Kai Freestyle Martial Arts, Sensei Erin, has three years in the Queensland classroom and trains under former acting Head of Style.
Where is Kickstart located and available?
Home Studio: How to get here
17 Healy Street
South Toowoomba
GIABAL COUNTRY
QLD 4350
Look for the white cottage with a white picket fence. Parking is available on the street. Enter after booking only, by walking down the brick driveway to the shed (pram and wheelchair suitable). The gate should be open: just sing out if you need help. Please ring the studio bell if you’re running late.
Kickstart is a home-based business in South Toowoomba, conveniently located at spacious private residence in South Toowoomba near the Toowoomba City Golf Club. Within the white picket fence, down the red brick driveway and behind the pretty workers cottage, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the large, welcoming private facility, courtesy of the enormous shed, equipped especially for your training and practice. The red brick driveway leads you into the wheelchair and pram accessible space at the home studio. The private home-based studio is a solo, semi-private and small-group environment.
Online via a secure Zoom or Facetime
Live, online-only classes and private sessions are available Australia-wide via Zoom. Facetime available for private sessions on request. All online classes are in AEST (Brisbane QLD timezone).
When attending an online class, find a comfortable place with space enough to move freely, and follow the link at your scheduled time for your live session or class. Although you are encouraged to share your practice on camera for greater support, you’ll be on mute except in case of questions, and have the opportunity for questions during and after.
You may have found Kickstart previously at a time when they were hiring spaces in Toowoomba such as Canvas Coworking, St Paul’s Lutheran Church Hall or Middle Ridge Uniting Church Hall. They were based for 3 years in Cooran, Noosa Hinterland and regularly instructed at that home studio, Cooran Hall and Federal. If you miss Kickstart, please join us online for private sessions or class!

Your workplace, school, kindergarten or early learning centre. Let Kickstart tailor something for your business, group or school.
What should I bring to class?
Kickstart provides many of the props for your most powerful experience. Generally, if something is forgotten, Kickstart can help you out.
Please abide by any Government guidelines in place at the time regarding face masks.
Fitness class: Please bring a towel and waterbottle.
Yoga class: Please bring the above as well as a yoga mat. This can be borrowed if you do ever forget.
Online class: Please have a selection of equipment and props available. Makeshift (but safe!) props are also encouraged. Miranda is happy to advise on some stores that sell budget and boutique props and equipment.
Anderson Bushi Kai: Please dress comfortably. No sparring gear or uniform is needed initially. With time, you will acquire protective shin insteps and gloves, a mouth guard, a uniform, belt and uniform patch, as these are required for grading.
What is the studio like?
The space has a blue, orange, black, grey and wood theme. It’s bright and well-equipped.
It is a large 8-bay shed, with areas allocated for different focuses. Half of our space is dedicated to yoga, a quarter for fitness and martial arts, and the other quarter houses our equipment as well as a quiet chill zone near the entry.
Nimble Ninjas make use of fitness and yoga spaces. The floor is padded for your comfort, or you can step into the outdoors if you choose with your supportive shoes.
Complimentary tea, coffee and water refill is available.
There is some heating and air-conditioning to take the edge off the Toowoomba weather.
